This webinar is a training for practitioners already familiar with asylum law that discusses the latest developments concerning asylum claims for young people. Young people face unique forms of persecution as well as unique challenges to accessing the U.S. asylum system. Although young people who are classified as unaccompanied are afforded special statutory protections and asylum procedures, in recent years the government has made sustained efforts to strip young asylum seekers of these protections and has engaged in enforcement and policy approaches that have been deeply harmful to many young people seeking asylum protection. This webinar will discuss the legal standards, guidelines, and strategies for asylum claims for young people. It will also provide practice tips for working effectively and compassionately with young clients to build a successful case.
