This webinar is geared to those with some exposure to bond proceedings, but who would like to fine-tune their bond advocacy skills. In this webinar, we will anchor the audience with the basic requirements for bond, but we will focus most of our time on more advanced issues and emerging topics. We will discuss topics such as utilizing habeas corpus petitions, difficult evidentiary issues, and other updates in bond law.

Amalia Willie, Attorney - Van Der Hout, Brigagliano, Nightingale, L.L.P.
Amalia Wille graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), Order of the Coif, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University.
Ms. Wille joined Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, LLP as the firm’s Deportation Defense Fellow in 2013. Prior to attending law school, she was an immigration paralegal at the firm for two years, where she assisted in complex immigration matters and worked closely with clients and their families. Her current practice focuses on complex motions to reopen and appeals, removal proceedings and detention, family-based immigration, waivers, asylum, naturalization, and consular processing.
As a law student, Ms. Wille interned at the ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the East Bay Community Law Center, and the San Francisco Immigration Court. She is fluent in Spanish.
Monika Langarica, Senior Staff Attorney - ABA Immigration Justice Project (IJP)
Monika Langarica is the Senior Staff Attorney with the ABA Immigration Justice Project (IJP), leading IJP's provision of legal representation to mentally incompetent individuals in removal proceedings pursuant to the National Qualified Representative Program. Monika grew up in southeast San Diego and is a first generation Chicana; the daughter of Mexican immigrants. Monika attended the University of Southern California (USC) as a Gates Millennium Scholar and she received her Juris Doctor from U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). She has post-graduate experience at the San Diego County Primary Public Defender and at Centro Legal de la Raza in Oakland, California, where she provided direct services immigration relief and engaged in policy advocacy as an Equal Justice Works Fellow. Monika currently serves as the Chair of the Statewide Advocacy Committee for the San Diego Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association and is licensed to practice law in California.
Erin Quinn, Staff Attorney - Immigrant Legal Resource Center
Erin Quinn is an attorney based in San Francisco. Her work focuses on building capacity of organizations and practitioners to assist immigrants. She conducts trainings on immigration law throughout the United States and provides legal expertise through the ILRC’s Attorney of the Day program. Erin has contributed to numerous ILRC publications as author or editor, including Removal Defense: Defending Immigrants in Immigration Court; Essentials of Asylum and many others. In addition, Erin works on issues related to immigration status and healthcare as well as consumer protection. She has published articles with LexisNexis Emerging Issues and American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
Prior to coming to the ILRC, Erin represented immigrants in all aspects of their immigration matters, with an emphasis on removal defense and complex cases. She was owner and attorney at her own firm for 5 years after defending immigrants as an associate at the Law Office of Robert B. Jobe. Her experience in immigration law and policy includes working as a fellow for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, EU headquarters in Belgium; clerking for the Immigration Court of San Francisco; and teaching courses as a lecturer at California State University, East Bay. Erin is on the Advisory Council for the Northern California Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), in which she serves as Consumer Protection Coordinator.
Erin holds a joint degree in law and public policy (JD/MPP) from the University of Michigan, where she was co-editor of Michigan Journal of Gender & Law. She received her undergraduate degree from University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in English and Anthropology. She is a member of the California Bar and proficient in Spanish.
Grisel Ruiz, Staff Attorney - Immigrant Legal Resource Center
Grisel Ruiz is a Staff Attorney in San Francisco where she focuses on the intersection between immigration law and criminal law. This includes advising attorneys and advocates on the immigration consequences of criminal offenses, training on removal defense, and supporting local and statewide campaigns to push back on immigration enforcement. In addition to technical assistance, training, and campaign support in these areas, Grisel also helps lead the ILRC’s state legislative work. Grisel is currently the Board Chair for Freedom for Immigrants (formerly CIVIC), a nonprofit that advocates for detained immigrants.
Prior to working with the ILRC, Grisel was a litigation associate at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and a Stimson Fellow housed at the UC Davis Law School Immigration Clinic and California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation. As a legal fellow, she co-founded “Know Your Rights” programs at local immigration detention centers, for which she received an award from Cosmo for Latinas.
Grisel is an immigrant herself and earned her law degree from the University of Chicago where she received the Tony Patiño Fellowship. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, where she dual majored in Political Science and Spanish Literature. Grisel is admitted to the bar in California is fluent in Spanish.
