Alison Kamhi, Legal Program Director - ILRC
Alison Kamhi is the Legal Program Director based in San Francisco. Alison is a dedicated immigrant advocate who brings significant experience in immigration law to the ILRC. Alison leads the ILRC's Immigrant Survivors Team and conducts frequent in-person and webinar trainings on naturalization and citizenship, family-based immigration, U visas, and FOIA requests. She also provides technical assistance through the ILRC's Attorney of the Day program on a wide range of immigration issues, including immigration options for youth, consequences of criminal convictions for immigration purposes, removal defense strategy, and eligibility for immigration relief, including family-based immigration, U visas, VAWA, DACA, cancellation of removal, asylum, and naturalization.
Alison received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A. from Stanford University. Alison is admitted to the bar in California and New York. She speaks German and Spanish.
Jill Marie Bussey, Director for Public Policy, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS)
Jill Marie Bussey serves as the Director for Public Policy of the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) where she leads in developing and promoting immigration and refugee policy recommendations on behalf of LIRS, its network, and clients. Jill Marie also serves as a key leader in the
Evacuate Our Allies coalition, a coalition of human rights, religious, and refugee resettlement organizations working alongside veterans and frontline civilians to evacuate at-risk Afghan allies to safety. Prior to joining LIRS, she was the Director for Advocacy at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network. Jill Marie has over 20 years of experience in the field of immigration law and policy and earned her Juris Doctor degree with a concentration in business law, cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She also has a bachelor's degree in law and society from the American University. Jill Marie is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and her state bar association, serving on the AILA Afghan Response Task Force and the Maryland State Bar Association's Immigration Law Section Council.
Karen Bird, Immigration Attorney, Jewish Family and Community Services East Bay
Karen Bird is an immigration attorney at Jewish Family and Community Services East Bay who focuses on affirmative forms of immigration relief. Prior to joining Jewish Family and Community Services East Bay, she worked as a Staff Attorney at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and as an Attorney Advisor at the San Francisco Immigration Court. Karen has over 15 years of immigration law experience, including supervising law student immigration clinics and providing representation in a wide variety of pro bono cases. She graduated cum laude from University of San Francisco School of Law, and received a bachelor's degree in political science from Northern Illinois University.
